Learning Chinese through movies (for young people and adults)

Status:

Available in Darwin only from second term 2014

Levels:

A series of courses distinguished by subject matter rather than by level

Required background:

For young people (age ten or above) and adults with some knowledge of Chinese

Time required:

Two hours per week for ten weeks for each course

Cost:

$300 for each 10-week course

Coverage:

This is a program for helping people with a basic knowledge of Mandarin develop their language skills further through the study of entertaining movies or television series. The initial series of classes will be based on the popular Chinese situation comedy program Home with Kids, which should be suitable for both older children (age ten and above) and adults. The classes will proceed by viewing episodes of the television program, with discussion and exercises that draw on the video material to help learners practise and extend their Mandarin speaking and writing abilities.
